  • The Barking Lot - 5/15/2008

    5/15/2008 Show

The 2008 Organized Team Activities are now underway for the Cleveland Browns as the team begins preperation for what many think could be a playoff run and a deep one at that.

Browns G.M. Phil Savage has not ruled out the possiblity of adding another cornerback to the teams depleted unit by either free agent acquisition or trade. He spoke of theteam having "excess" at a position Thursday for a potentail trade, but did not say what that position was. Show host Jim Giles, along with several callers, speculated on what those positions could be.

New additons DE Corey Williams and DT Shaun Rogers have already spoken publicly about the change from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 and that it will take time. Will Browns fans give them time and show patience or was the price the team paid too high to afford them that luxury?

The Browns may have given up all their day 1 draft picks in this years draft, but they more and made up for it with all the manuvering they did on day 2. The Browns went into day 2 with 4 picks and walked out with 5 players.

G.M. Phil Savage gave up 3rd and 5th round picks in the 2009 NFL Draft though to take TE Martin Rucker from Missouri and WR Paul Hubbard from Wisconsin. Many Browns fans can see the logic in taking Rucker, but Hubbard was a reach in the eyes of many Browns fans.

Show host Jim Giles thinks it's time for Phil Savage to stop wasting his 6th and 7th round picks on guys he sees as "projects". With the Browns trading away their early round draft picks and striking out with their late ones the future of the Browns may be in peril.
