A Whole Lotta Congrats & One MAJOR Bitch

First of all, to the Cleveland Browns--from the players to Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel on down to their staffs--a heart-felt congratulations on a tremendously successful and unexpected season.

To think where this organization has been, not only the last eight years but going back as recently as Week One of the 2007 season, and to think that this team would finish the regular season with 10 wins?  And 7 of those coming at home?

Yeah, the choke job against both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh 2.0--especially the latter--has led to some hand-wringing, but the totality of the season can be perceived as nothing but an unmitigated success.

If you would've told me before the season began that "you can have a 10-6 season, but...", I would've cut you off before the word "10" could be completed, said "thank you" and moved on.

I just hope time and distance and perspective will allow people to grasp what this team, what this organization, has accomplished this season.

Now, with that out of the way, onto the bitch...

Romeo, good sir, just WTF were you thinking???

You have a potential playoff game next weekend, your starting QB injures his throwing hand, and you put him back in what was essentially a meaningless game.

Playoff-wise, this game had no bearing.  None.

What in God's name were you thinking?

And please tell me that FOX sideline reporter Tony Rizzo misquoted you, that you didn't actually say, in not so many words, that you didn't want to cause a QB controversy by protecting your injured starting QB.

Yes, the x-rays were negative.  Bully for them.  But what was the point risking your starting QB--in a meaningless game, playoff-wise, BTW--with a playoff game staring you square in the face?

It turned out OK--so it seems--but it was an asinine decision on your part.

No reason for it.  None.

Especially if the reason was to avoid a "QB controversy".

OK, folks. Been living and dying with this crap since the 60's. So recognize what a total load of garbage was left here by Butchie and friends. Recognize also that Romeo has done a great job of pulling them out of the dumper. But he may NOT be the guy (nor is D. A. ) the person to lead us to the promised land. But Phil Savage is. God Bless the Cleveland Browns!

Romeo is not the man and the fact that he put DA back in the game with the playoffs looming with an injured finger proves it!! Brady looked great and should have got the rest of the game to prove it.  DA rushed back so Brady would not show him for the inconsistent fraud that he is.

I wouldn't advise clicking on that photo, LOL... it's a toilet bowl, complete with real turd, with "Sorgi 12" written plainly visible. It does, however, make it's point.

I must agree.  What if the Browns played San Diego next week and DA got injured again.  It makes sense to me that given the opportunity, you would want your back up to have more than one series of experience.   The first half of the year we got a half of good DA and a half of bad.  Since halftime of the second Steelers game, we have gotten a half of bad DA and a half of mediocre DA.  If playing Quinn creates a controvery, then so be it.  Last time I checked, you want the players on the field who give you the best chance of winning every week and DA's inconsistent play every week doesn't make him my choice.

Couldn't agree more. Offense is pretty much fixed for the time being. A good third receiver needs to be found. Either that or a great second receiver and then move Joe. J to third. Props go out to CHUD this season. Without him the offense would be good but not great like its been. He knew when he arrived that DA & Quinn fit his system better than Frye. Defense needs some help in the draft and free-agency. Like some D-line and Pass rushing help!! OBR keep up  the good work.

If Romeo was trying to hold off a quarterback contraversy, then what the heck do you think he would have IF D.A. got hurt and IF Tennessee won AND Brady showed poise against S.D.? Sounds like Kelly Holcomb all over again. tisk tisk tisk. Dear Santa, Please don't forget to send us some serious D-Linemen in the offseason.

Browns have an above-average offense. DA had a decent first season as a starting NFL QB, but he's no Kosar, Sipe, or Nelsen.  It is pathetic that the Browns have been so committed to keeping Quinn on the bench. Reminds me of the asinine commitment last year to keeping Frye on the field at all costs.

With all of the DA passes that were thrown too high, too behind, or just too foolishly, it would not seem to be rocket science to try the 2nd string QB for awhile. Especially when the 1st stringer has had his throwing hand injured and a playoff possibility is still active.

Very poor coaching. Extremely poor coaching. Almost makes me wish that DA would have suffered a shoulder separation in the 4th quarter - to spotlight Crennel's stupidity.  The same stupidity that gave us too many months of Maurice Carthon. Too many sightings of Charlie Frye.

Too bad that Crennel isn't Manager of the Indians!  He is certainly a "man in the no." There would have been:

1.  No Asdrubal Cabrera (too young and inexperienced)

2. No Fausto Carmona (Too young and inexperienced)

3. No end to seeing Cliff Lee being pounded

4. No stopping Josh Barfield's slide towards the Mendoza Line

4. No playoffs for the Tribe.

Oh well. At least he kept the Browns out of the playoffs.

Excellent season by this coaching staff.  IMHO Crennel is worth his weight in gold.  He may not be everyone's favorite in game strategist, but the coaching job he did on the defense was as good as it gets.  If Browns can keep this staff together, and Phil can add some more pieces (another deep threat wr, d-line), then I don't think we'll be worrying about a wild card bid  next season, we'll own the AFC North.

Romeo is not the right guy to take this program to the next level. He has been agreat guy to "right the ship" after years of disaster. That's the reason he is attractive to Parcells. He will calm down all of the young players and everyone else. I just want to see us keep progressing in the years to come. D.A> has exceeded everyone's opinion of him, including his own. OMG I'm a starting NFL QB! Can you believe it!. Trust me guys, BQ has LOT more goals on his mind that just being astsrter. Trade D.A. and Coach No Emotions to Parcells. Hire somebody who won't rip what we have apart, and will agree to work with Savage on personnel issues. This could be a LOT harder and trickier than it sounds on the surface.

Got to agree Romeo isn't the man from what I have seen all year to get them to the Super Bowl. His holding on to Carlton last year no matter what told me that. If it wasn't for Savage firing Carlton and getting some good coaches to come to Cleveland Romeo would of been gone my now. Chud is the reason for the offenses success. Romeo is just a face on the team taking credit for what Chud and the other new coaches did for the team this year.  Romeo isn't capable of making good calls. Just look at his record for throwing the RED FLAG. I didn't agree with Romeo's call of pulling Quinn out of a meaningless game either. Once Quinn shook the rust off of a couple of  throws from sitting on the bench all year he looked great. He deserved to play the rest of the game but what can you expect from Romeo. DA I am still not convinced about him. He blew the game in Cinsy with his 4 picks and didn't impress me much against the 49ers also adding another pick and almost a 2nd one in that game. I was more impressed with what Quinn showed for sitting all year. If the Colts had a backup like Quinn they would be dangerous and would of won that game instead of throwing it. My take on the whole year now is for the Browns to see what they can get for DA. Take the money and the picks to upgrade the defense and go with Quinn. Behind our offensive line trust me Quinn will do wonders. Also if I was Randy Lerner I would open up talks right now in private with Bill Cowher to see if he is interested in the Cleveland Browns job as head coach before the Rat Birds grab him. Then deal Romeo to Parcels. Do that and look to go to the Super Bowl soon.  Randy are you listening?
