Browns #1 FA Target Off The Market... Almost

While he's yet to be officially slapped with the franchise-tag designation, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs is a matter of days away from being designated as such.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens will tag Suggs if a long-term agreement cannot be reached before the the February 21 deadline for application of the franchise designation.

""We will be using the franchise tag on Terrell if we don't have a long-term deal in place between now and then," Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome told The Sun.

The OBR has heard rumblings that Suggs would've been the top priority of the Browns this off-season, but most within the organization--including one person who remains in close contact to his former club--were resigned to the fact they would not get the chance to bid on the talented LB.

To build the defense I think you have to start inside and move out. I would think a lineman like Albert Haynesworth would be a top priority. He probably won't be available either. There's no question Suggs is a fine linebacker. But linebackers are eisier to find than a great d-lineman.

I agree that you build the interior line first and get physical middle linebackers to stop the run and that would give wimbly and the other outside backers more chances to pin thier ears back and go get that QB!!! I dont know how Savage is going to do this with most difference makers going to be franchised the way it looks now.But if we could get  Haynesworth and Suggs i think we would be much improved defensivly. I also think we need to keep Chaun Thompson and move him outside and if Willie is still here try him inside because he can stop the run and still get after the QB a little.

How the hell is Baltimore going to free up the cap space to make this happen? I hope they are forced to cut a key player or two.

Either way, this is the guy I would throw a ton of money at in the market. The premeire D-Lineman won't likely be available so why not secure that other OLB spot? He can also be a rush lineman on 2nd or 3rd and long situations which would free up #95 considerably.

As far as interior linemen go, don't forget about Corey Williams of the Packers.  he's on the Browns' radar, and justifiably so.

And as for how the rats will keep Suggs, they'll restructure contracts and move money around.  Just like every team does this time of year to keep a star player when they are up against the cap.
