Bernie:

I think that you are the greatest. I am a life-long addict of pro football. I guess you might say that there never was anything else important for me in life than the NFL. Given that, I recognize greatness when I see it in the sport and you have it. I just wish you would let me say it and not you. The league is full of big mouths that flaunt their abilities. Graciousness has died in the NFL and in our country as well. No names like me will always admire the guys like you with the greatness. I just wish somebody would show a little class sometime - for the sake of the old days when players let their talent do the talking for them.

I’ll never understand why Verba thought he was a first-class tackle. It always seemd to me that he would choke on almost every "big play" by going offsides. He killed more scoring opportunities in his short terrible career with the Browns than any other player I can think of since I began watching the Browns in 1957. - Braddog

I agree with Bouleware over Law at this point. No way the Browns can sign both, and linebacker is by far the most pressing need.

I agree with your estimate of Jeremiah Trotter, however he’s back with the Eagles so it’s a moot point...keep up the good work. - PADawg

The Browns won’t get anything for Winslow if they trade him now. The question for his future is how he handles himself now - if he agrees to pay back bonus money and this year’s salary with a solid opportunity to earn it back - fine. He pisses and moans, take all the money back and cut him. - PADawg

As a gator starting nose guard in 49 I interverviewd with Paul brown and was invited to Hirrum to try out. When Paul said I would get $3500.00 a season I decided my poor legs and playing against the likes of Bob Gain who I played against in college was worth more. I enjoyed watching you guys play as I am a lifelong resident of The area. Just found your blog and agree with all you say. I liked all of you except Jim Brown, who was admitidly the greatest back I have ever seen, but not much of a man. Will keep reading your blog.

Adding Boulware would be great. We need Boulware more then we need Law at this point. The CB position should be fine with Baxter, McCutheon and Perkins. The LB position is very poor and needs an upgrade before the season starts. - Sim

Cutting Winslow would be short-sighted. What if Pittsburgh or Baltimore or Cincy signs him?? I say if you want him gone then trade him (to a non-competitor like Arizona) when he heals up. You then could get some value for this kid.

Also, Trotter re-uped with Philly...I think you meant to say Boulware. - Sim

Your comment about trading Winslow now to sign "Jerimia" Trotter is a little off. He was resigned by the Eagles earlier this off season. He also has terrible knees and doesn’t fit a 3-4.

The Browns should take some money back from Winslow to try to sign Boulware (maybe Law, though doubtful). Winslow is 21 - 4-5 yrs from his athletic prime.

Though you may be a Browns great, I question anyone who calls himself a "world-class athlete". - Ben Williamson
