Marshall, Sarunas On Board

Donyell Marshall has signed with the Cavs. He’s a solid guy, a great 6th man and spot starter at the 4. Most importantly he’s a good shooter. The downside? He’s signed for 4 years, which might be too long for a guy who’s already 32. Hopefully he stays in good shape and ages well. He might start, but I think he’d be best suited in a Robert Horry-like role off the bench.

And Sarunas Jasikevicius is next? That would be very promising -- Sarunas is not a complete NBA player (great shooter, but not tested from NBA 3-point distance, average passer) but would give the Cavs some talents they sorely need. And I give Ferry major kudos for snagging him.

I’m still waiting on whether Gooden gets dealt. Supposedly the Cavs are still pursuing above-minimum guys.

UPDATE: Sarunas signed with the Pacers. So much for trusting the unofficial media reports. And so much for the NBA making the offseason worth getting too excited about. Can someone please explain to me why the NBA has rules preventing free agency signing right in the mddle of summer? It just does not make sense.

Average passer? Try GREAT passer. He’s led Euroleague in assists. Don’t compare his 5.3 assists this year to NBA standards. The ruling on awarding assists in Euroleague is much more stringent then the NBA. He’s at the top in assists every year.

The weak link in Saras’ game is speed and defense. He’s a step slower than the elite NBA point guards and is just an average defender. Basically, he’s the Steve Nash of Europe. An MVP who led the league in assists, a great shooter, a great leader, but just an average defender. How does that translate to the NBA? I don’t know, but I want this guy in Cleveland!

Note: I had to break up the above links b/c the blog kept telling me that some of my words were too long. To get to those links just copy and paste them all together in your browser. Sorry for the inconvenience. Know how to get around this oddity? - Cstyle
