Kid Cleveland 2007 Mock Draft

Thomas: the true safe pick Credit:NFL.com

As we head to the eve of the draft I can’t help but scratch my head and wonder about what most of these national “experts” are thinking when they say they are so sure that Brady Quinn is pretty much a lock to be the Browns’ top pick on Saturday. Don’t get me wrong here; I know I’ve been campaigning for an upgrade all along at QB. What’s really grinding my gears right now is the facts that despite hearing things like: the rumors of GM Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel’s jobs possibly being on the line as well as this is the most important draft of the new era to date.

In other words, does the latter portion of the paragraph sound like a recipe for reaching on a QB with the 3rd pick? Would you pull that shit if your job was rumored to be on the line? It’s this recent thinking I’ve been having that’s making me change up my prediction for the 3rd pick (assuming they stay put). Conventional wisdom in this situation would make Quinn seem to be a reach that I doubt not too many people agree on, I wouldn’t trust Adrian Peterson’s injury history with such an important pick either. That just leaves one man. I believe Joe Thomas will be the pick and I’m sticking with it. However, I still believe in the long run the Browns will be ok in selecting any of the top 5 offensive players in this draft. I’m just predicting Thomas based on what ol’ Butchy Davis used to call “a gut feeling.”

Could Quinn really be just a smokescreen?
