Browns vs. Lions Tailgate Talk

They say this could be the preseason game to end all games. The power, the glory, and of course the Great Lakes Cup are all on the line Saturday night in Detroit with the Browns take on the Lions. Don't kid yourself, we all know you are excited.

Personally, I have no idea why there is an actual trophy on the line for a preseason game in which nobody really significant (as long as your last name is not Quinn mind you) will even be playing in the 4th quarter. I bet 4 out of 5 readers never even heard of the Great Lakes Cup before reading the first paragraph above. The GLC trophy is so insignificant, rumor has it even the "Illibuck" ignores it at circuit events. So it goes.

Moving on to the game.

A few things I'll be looking out for in no particular order (though I admit, I put in numerical order which makes no sense...bear with me) :

1. The great quarterback caper of 2007. With Derek Anderson likely to start, will he have an improved performance compared to last week's disappointing showing? Will Charlie Frye maintain his efficient ways versus Detroit's "cover 2" defense? Oh, and word around the campfire is that guy from Notre Dame should see some fourth quarter action...

2. Eric Wright gets an even bigger test. Last week Wright looked good versus KC's no name recieving core which, at least, gave the rookie a nice boost of confidence. Now a real test will come against the likes of Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson, and Mike Furrey. It will an interesting match-up for not only Wright, but the rest of the secondary.

3. The Browns pass rush. It will be interesting if they first team unit can maintain the strong showing vs. KC last week (and their weakest line in years) and put up more pressure onto Mike Martz high powered offense. The Lions almost put of 500 yards of offense up last week...will Wimberly, Peek, and company be able to disrupt Lions QB John Kitna's passing attack?

I'll be back monday with a recap of the action from the game. Admittedly, I wasn't able to provide one for last game. Sue me, I am the only writer on this site. Now let's go get the GLC cup! See you at the victory parade.
