Ever since last night's on air interview with TBS's Craig Sager last night, LeBron and his Yankee gear has been both the number one topic in C-Town as well the subject to much fodder on the "blogsphere" abroad. Some feel he should be castrated and burned in effigy with Tribe mascot Slider lighting the match. Hell, even Bob Feller (not so shockingly) has an opinion on the matter and says he'll wear a Pistons hat to a Cavs game this year.
Since we are still living in a democracy, let's just say I support LeBron's right to wear that nasty looking hat as a fan, but support even more the right of the fans to give him a hard time for it.
One of the better takes comes from ESPN.com's "Sports Guy" himself, Bill Simmons:
Speaking of Cleveland, how 'bout LeBron's wearing a Yankees cap to the
Yanks-Tribe game last night? Why not just hold a press conference to say, "I'm
signing with the Knicks in two years?" Has there ever been a bigger and more
random slap in the face to an entire city of sports fans? Even if you're a
Yankees fan, don't you have to hide this in a PLAYOFF GAME THAT'S IN
CLEVELAND???? I'm still speechless. I'm without speech. We're within three years
of Knicks GM Anucha Browne Sanders introducing Bron-Bron to the New York press as Spike Lee sobs happily in the background.
Now I'm not one who wants to burn our greatest athlete since Jim Brown in effigy by any stretch of the imagination. He's a Yankees fan and always has been. Fine.
What I can't help but think about the whole thing is that this is what happens when you have three of your best friends acting as your agents. Seriously, do you think if LeBron didn't have a bunch of "yes" men in his corner
someone would have told him to think twice about wearing that Yankees hat and hamming it up for the camera last night? Where's Ari Gold when you need him?
Thankfully, the biggest
slap in the face last night was to the Yankees and
all of their fans after the Tribe handed the Yanks a 12-3 smackdown. Go ahead Yankee fan, let your "the sky is falling" panic begin. Today is Fausto's turn.
