ESPN's Steve Phillips reported on Monday that the Indians and Pirates are discussing a deal in which pitcher Cliff Lee and back up catcher Kelly Shoppach would to to Pittspuke in exchange for outfielder
Jason Bay.
I know this isn't the first time Jason Bay has been rumored to be heading to Cleveland this off-season but, are you kidding me? All we'd have to give up is Lee and Shoppach? If this trade goes down, can I invite new Pirates GM Neal Huntington to join my fantasy baseball league?
I know, I know...half of you will probably beat me in sending him e-vites to your leagues but a boy can dream can't he?
Granted, Bay had a bit of a down year last year thanks to some nagging injuries, but this could
finally be the right handed bat the Tribe's line-up has badly needed for over three years now. He's averaged about 30 HR's, 100 RBI, and an OPS that is .890 over the past four seasons.
Of course, this is all in the
rumor stage which doesn't exactly hold much weight except for one big factor...we are in the early portion of baseball's winter meetings. If a deal goes down, it should be sometime this week.
Somehow I got a feeling this rumor has more legs than Danny Ferry finally getting LeBron some help, but that's just me...
