For those of you who weren't aware, Quicken Loans Arena was invaded this past weekend by the Hanson brothers from the movie Slap Shot at the Lake Erie Monsters game.
If you ask me this promotion was a sheer stroke of genius. In fact, I nearly considered driving downtown to watch a minor league hockey game.
Personally, I'm amazed with the effort Dan Gilbert's people are doing in promoting this minor league team. The tickets are reasonable, the website is just dandy, and well…I'm aware this team actually exists.
Isn't that last part of the final sentence an obvious key? To tell the truth, I never had a clue where or when Cleveland's last hockey team, the Junior Barons, played. They never even got a mention in the local paper nor did they have a website (I think). I don't think I knew anybody who ever went to a game.
Hey, if people actually start showing up, maybe Dan Gilbert will attempt to bring the NHL back to Cleveland. Hey, if they can put hockey in Nashville, Carolina, Tampa, and Phoenix then it can damn well make an appearance in C-Town.
Tell you what longtime Cleveland hockey fans. I'll make a deal and I'll meet you halfway and pick up tickets to the February 9th game. Warning: It may or not feature the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
Never mind all that bullshit. Instead, just take in this clip that showcases all the glory that is of the Hanson brothers at their very best. Enjoy.
