The winners of the derby to rename the Jake is Progressive Insurance. The Cleveland based company will be paying an average of $3.6 million a year for the next 16 years for the naming rights.
Some people may scoff at the idea of the Tribe selling the naming rights to a corporation for millions. Tell those hippies to go screw themselves. They are probably the same people who bitch about the team not spending "enough" on free agents etc. Well, guess what...the Indians brass has a little more revenue to work with. Perhaps we can throw some of this on towards a new deal for C.C. Sabathia?
What really frightens me is the idea of having a ball park named "Progressive." Yes, they are my insurance company and I am happy with it. What I'm talking about is the possibility of ballpark personnel to get "cute" and start blaring an excessive amount of progressive or "prog rock" constantly at the game.
Do we really need some Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmer or any other bands that fit that category jammed down our throats as we watch Jenson Lewis warm up? Let's hope not.

Oh, and if they decide Coldplay or John Mayer fit into this category downtown, then we are really screwed.
