I haven't posted anything up in a while that has to do with baseball cards for quite a while, but I couldn't resist this one...and this card makes the Rudy Guiliani Topps card look quite tame in comparison.
Upper Deck randomly inserted cards featuring each of the Presidential hopefuls in caracature in a famous baseball moment. For example John McCain is portrayed
in a Red Sox uniform in mid-swing just like his baseball idol, Ted Williams. Well, not every candidate was so lucky. Just when you think this year's Presidential race couldn't get weirder...it just did.
The folks at Upper Deck were
forced to recall the Hillary Clinton card from circulation when they realized the card may be considered inappropriate by some people...namely the Clintons. The people at the company were so freaked out they allegedly went onto the production floor and were manually pulling the cards.
So what about this card has people in a tizzy? Hillary is in a parody of Morganna the kissing bandit. In the picture she appears um...quite well off and laying a smooch on someone who may or not be Pete Rose in a Reds uniform. Of course, the collectors are in a frenzy to get a hold of this card.
Bids for this card are now topping $2,000 on eBay. Once again, the baseball card industry is profiting from a well calculated "accident."
For what it's worth, I'd still rather have the '89
Billy Ripken "f*ck face" card. At least that one has a swear word on it. Seriously, wouldn't kids rather still have that than some politician?
