For what it's worth here is my perspective on the Brown's selections in the '06 Draft.
Kamerion Wimbley--He is the type of athletic player we need on our defense. In hindsight, with the selection of Oshinowo in round 6, the Browns are better off with these two defenders than just banking on Ngata or Bunkley as the new mainstays on the front seven. Wimbley will be groomed by McGinest, which was Phil's plan all along.
D'Quell Jackson--This kid can be special. He is high energy. Just sit back and enjoy. He reminds me of the late, great Eddie Johnson.
Travis Wilson--I liked him alot in college. He is big, tough and determined. I thought he was more of a round 4 value however.
Leon Williams--I think Butch Davis snuck into the Browns War Room Saturday night when the Browns Braintrust was sleeping and he made this pick In my opinion, this was a reach. I would have attempted to do what the Eagles did (who had an awesome draft by the way) and trade up to get Max Jean-Gilles.
Issac Sowells--I hope the Browns are right on this one. I would be lying if I said I saw this guy play. Please don't be Enoch DeMar. It was good that the Browns did select an offensive lineman. Let's put some faith in Phil on this one. I liked Jonathon Scott or Fred Matua here.
Jerome Harrison--A very productive college player. Very good at the Senior Bowl. He's the change of pace guy the Browns were looking for. He will be looked upon to catch passes out of the backfield. I am a Lee Suggs guy.
DeMario Winter--A good value pick here. He will compete for the 4th corner spot, which is wide open.
Lawrence Vickers--One of the top fullbacks in college last year. Another good value pick, but frankly, I like the two guys we already have on the roster--Cory M. and T. Smith.
Babatunda Oshinowo--Awesome, Awesome pick. I jumped through the roof on this one. This guy almost single handedly beat Notre Dame last year. A great character guy, very, very intelligent. He made our draft in my book. He should have been drafted higher. Plays bigger than his true height and weight. Contrary to what you might have read, he does have some burst, but he understands what his primary job is--to be a space eater and tie up the O-lineman. Will be groomed by T. Washington. Phil had a plan and he stuck with it.
Justin Hamilton--An athlete. I would like to see him stay at safety and become a huge physical presence in the middle of the park.
Overall in two off-seasons, Phil and Romeo have molded the team into their image. They certainly addressed the depth of the team in this draft. Now let's add a few quality undrafted free agents and put this off season to bed--GO BROWNS!!!
