I think a lot of hard-core football fans like the NFL Network's content. My concerns tend to be different, though - I'm concerned about journalistic integrity and equal access to all types of media. As I pointed out, the NFL only really succeeds when they can monopolize and cut out others. We've seen this with things like video on the web... they don't like competition, since competing with established media and determined little guys like the OBR is, well, hard. My concern with NFLN was that they would push out independent and objective journalists so that they wouldn't have to compete. We saw this already with combine coverage and the games. I think we may have dodged a bullet with this.

Tom: You'll need to accuse the Wall Street Journal and others of sensationalist coverage as well, since they've also been speculating on the NFLN's future. Success is relative. What might be a successful business for you and I might be a failure from the perspective of a monopoly whose worst-run franchises are worth more than half-a-billion dollars. When a network can't get past two of the major carriers on the financial terms they've set as defining success, I'd say they failed.

Seems to me like sensationalist journalism to me.

NFLN is a success. If they partner for any reason, it will be to expand its success, and comparing NFLN to WLAF is crazy.
