WWDT?

This posting falls under the "oh yeah, one more thing..." category.

What Would Dale Think?

Ever since The Announcement, we've heard people--talking media heads, drivers, team owners, fans on message boards, etc..--opining on what Dale Earnhardt would've thought of Junior's decision to leave DEI and drive for Rick Hendrick.

(And while I'm here, it's "Hendrick", not "Hendricks". No "s" at the end. Please, stop annoying everybody and anybody by pluralizing the man's surname.)

Let's get one thing straight: If Dale Sr. were still alive, this never would've gotten to this point.

And you know why?

Because he never would've let his organization, the one he created, get to the point where it wasn't competitive. Where it wasn't competitive enough that his son would've gotten to the point where he would've even considered leaving his Daddy.

It simply wouldn't have happened. The Intimidator damn sure never would've allowed his racing organization to become a third-rate, fourth-tier operation.

And that's exactly what they gradually became and have become under the stewardship of Teresa sans Dale.

There were a lot of repercussions from that last-lap tragedy in 2001.

This departure is simply the latest and, perhaps, most difficult to swallow.
