Gene Hickerson of the Cleveland Browns has officially been inducted into the hall of fame.
A
7th round draft pick out of 'Ol Miss. in 1957, Hickerson enjoyed a
fifteen year career paving the way for no less than three Hall Of Fame
running backs. Ask any one of those guys, Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly, or Bobby Mitchell, and they'll tell you how they got there.
By following # 66.
The
Browns never endured a losing season when Hickerson patrolled the
trenches, and he blocked for the NFL's leading rusher 7 times. His
storied tenure includes 6 Pro Bowls , being named to 5 All NFL
teams, playing in 4 NFL Title games,( yes, stooler an' rat-fan, there
was an NFL BEFORE the Super Bowl ), and was an integral part in the Browns Championship title in 1964.
Never one to lobby on his own behalf, Gene's induction is long overdue. When once asked what he thought of his HOF snub, Hickerson replied ," I could
give a rat's ass."
In this year, 2007, football justice has been served. Gene Hickerson is in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.
