When Barry drugged me and convinced me to do this blog, I knew one of the very first entries was going to be about this awesome idea I had after seeing the success of the outdoor Sabres-Penguins game at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Watching hockey players skate around in the elements as a packed stadium looked on, I couldn't help but wonder why can't the NBA do something like this? Why can't the NBA play an outdoor game?
While basketball is officially an indoor sport, it is unofficially played outdoors at playgrounds. I would guess that most kids spend more time playing basketball on a driveway than in a gymnasium.
Plus an outdoor NBA game would be cool for the following reasons...
Metal backboards and chain nets

That crappy part of the court with the puddle that everybody has to avoid since you can't dribble there

Shirts vs. Skins
The in-game music would be only partially deafening
David Stern would finally get to force players to play with a crappy composite playground basketball
Would the wind cause Larry Hughes to shoot 0%? Or would it blow his shots back on target?
"How the hell should I know?" -- Larry Hughes
Anyway, I knew I was going to blog about this, but now my thunder has been stolen. I came home tonight and saw an ESPN.com headline that the Phoenix Suns might be hosting an outdoor game next pre-season.
And not only did the Suns steal my genius idea, but they came into the Q tonight and nailed more threes than an unscrupulous judge on the eve of the Miss Yinzer Pageant.
The Phoenix Suns? More like the Phoenix Sons of Bitches.
